Photograph of Suniti Devi, the Maharani of Koch Bihar in a half length portrait. The Maharani faces three-quarters to the right and wears a lace headdress that extends to her waist and a diamond necklace and matching bangles. She rests her left arm on the back of a chair. The Maharani promoted women's rights and in 1881, the Maharajah of Koch Bihar established a school for girls that was named after her; one of two schools for girls that she supported and financed. In 1887, the same year that her husband was awarded the Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire, the Maharani was made a Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire.
