A circular photograph of a drawing showing a female figure representing the year 1856 departing. The figure is shown full-length, leaving through two large doors, looking back over her left shoulder. She is watched by two angels, both holding books. The angel on the left of the picture holds a quill in her right hand and looks down at a large book which she holds open across her lap. 'AD 1857' is written on a page in the book. The angel on the right of the picture holds a closed book entitled 'Record of the Past 1856' on her lap.
Provenance
From an album belonging to Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge. The album was given to HM Queen Elizabeth II by the Duchess of Beaufort, and placed in the Photograph Collection on June 7th 1976.
