-
Photograph of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), seated, half length, holding an infant Prince Edward, later The Earl of Wessex (b.1964). Queen Elizabeth looks at the camera. She holds Prince Edward against her body, facing him away from the camera, her left hand holding his back. The photograph was taken in the Blue Drawing Room, Buckingham Palace.
As well as an example of Cecil Beaton’s evolving style, this portrait, along with others such as RCIN 2153236 and 2153214, reflects the Royal Family’s wish to be seen in a more informal and relatable manner.Provenance
