Photograph of Cetshwayo ka Mpande, King of the Zulu, (1826-84) and his attendants at the Castle of Good Hope, Cape Town. Cetshwayo is standing at the front of the group facing partly left. He is wearing a suit and hat and is holding a cane and gloves in his left hand. The petty chief Umkosana, Induno Umdekeza, Mr Longcast the interpreter and Captain Poole who was in charge are gathered around a cannon behind him. There is a stone bastion wall behind them.
Cetshwayo ka Mpande, King of the Zulu, (1826-84) was the King of the Zulu Kingdom at the time of the Anglo-Zulu War (1879). He was exiled to the Castle of Good Hope following the Zulu defeat.Provenance
