-
An oval blue jasperware plaque in blue dip in upright giltwood frame with pitted spandrels, the plaque with white low relief decoration of Queen Elizabeth II facing left, wearing the Diamond Diadem, a string of pearls, and a loose robe around her shoulders. The profile replicates Arnold Machin's effigy for the British definitive stamp introduced in 1967. At the time of the queen's demise it was the most reproduced image ever; over 320 billion stamps having been issued with this image, which remained in production from 1967 until the last issue in February 2023.
Provenance
Presented to Queen Elizabeth II by Postmaster-General Edward Short following a Privy Council meeting at Sandringham House, 26 January 1968.
