Half-length portrait of Frederick, Landgrave of Hesse, dressed in a dark jacket with a shawl collar and brass buttons; he wears a German star and a panel of medals; a red curtain behind. Landgrave Frederick III of Hesse-Kassel (1747-1837) was the youngest son of Landgrave Frederick II and Princess Mary of Great Britain, daughter of King George II. He married Princess Caroline of Nassau-Usingen whose inheritance included the castle of Rumpenheim, Offenbach, which became the family's seat.
