Charles I (1600-1649) c.1835-70
-
After Anthony Van Dyck's portrait of Charles I in the hunting field painted c.1636 (Musée du Louvre, Paris, no. 1236). The size of the ivory support indicates that this is a mid- to late nineteenth-century copy; the standard of execution is high and it is distinguished by the red outlines that are also seen in the work of Guglielmo Faija.
Provenance
First recorded in the Prince's Old Bedroom at Carlton House in 1816 (no 201); at Buckingham Palace in 1877
