-
Hand coloured engraving of Henry IV, Holy Roman Emperor. Full length portrait inclined left, wearing a crown and mantle fastened at the shoulder while carrying a spear and crown. The arch shaped portrait sits within a rectangular frame inscribed in German, 'HEINRICH IV.' The print has been taken from a book titled Die Deutschen Kaiser, published by S. Schmerber c.1844-47. The book is illustrated by printed portraits of Holy Roman Emperors, all after painted portraits completed in the nineteenth-century and hung in Frankfurt's Kaisersaal, a room of the City Hall once used for the coronation of Holy Roman Emperors.
