A watercolour drawing of the exterior of Windsor Castle, seen from the top of Castle Hill. The Henry III Tower (then called the Store Tower) is on the right and the Mary Tudor Tower (then the Governor of the Military Knight's Tower) is at the centre left. In the centre foreground, a water-carrier with his horse and cart are driving down the hill. Next to him are a woman with a basket and a chair-mender. A boy is running past with a hoop and a dog. In the middle distance, a couple are standing to watch. The sheet is circumscribed with a buff wash and black line border. The sheet is mounted on a green and grey wash line bordered mount of a type associated with watercolours from the collection of Sir Joseph Banks.
A related drawing in pen and ink is RCIN 917760 and a pencil drawing of the Henry III Tower (RCIN 914540). The figures in this drawing are reminiscent of the street sellers and hawkers in Sandby's print series the 'London Cries', published in about 1760Provenance
