Two handled cup

Silver two-handled cup and cover. Plain domed lid with a knop finial and engraved with a coat of arms within a cartouche, flanked by caryatid figures. Body with a plain girdle and engraved with a pair of coats of arms, leaf-capped scroll handles; spreading circular foot. Contemporary arms in a cartouch are those of Treby quartering Grange for the Rt Hon George Treby, MP for Plympton in 1708, Secretary at War in 1718 and Teller of the Exchequer in 1724. He was an important client of de Lamerie. The later arms are those of Molesworth quartering Twysden. Katharine, Treby's eldest daughter married the Rev William Molesworth in 1817. Their fourth sone, Walter Hele Molesworth married Frances, only daughter of Captain HD Twysden in 1817.
