Dryad’s saddle

Fungi fascinated Cassiano and his friends because they seemed to lack reproductive structures such as flowers or seeds, and thus they were considered ‘imperfect plants’. The dryad’s saddle is here drawn actual size, the two views showing the concentric rings of brown fibrous scales on the upper surface, and the porous lower surface.
