ALEXANDER MARSHAL (C. 1620-82)
German flag irises, Montpellier ranunculus, turban ranunculus, and bluebells
c. 1650-82RCIN 924330
Marshal evidently enjoyed contrasts in his ‘plant portraits’, often juxtaposing complex and simple forms. Here the extravagant flower heads of the common irises contrast with the slender forms of the bluebells and ranunculi.
