Queen Elizabeth II when Princess Elizabeth (1926-2022)

1937

RCIN 101407

The Hungarian sculptor Sigismund de Strobl was Professor of Sculpture at the Budapest Royal Academy. Between the wars he also taught in London, where his career as a portraitist flourished. This bust seems to have been modelled in 1935 when the sitter was nine years old. The portrait proved popular and was subsequently reproduced in porcelain.
