The annual Ghillies’ Ball in the Ballroom at Balmoral Castle, attended by The Queen and other members of the Royal Family, is a splendid occasion for all – guests include estate and castle staff, neighbours, and members of the local community. The first reel of the evening is usually an eightsome, and the Royal Family traditionally make up the first set. The Queen stands in the centre, with The Queen Mother at right and The Duke of Edinburgh (in kilt) close to the top of the picture.
