ANTONIO VISENTINI (VENICE 1688- VENICE 1782) AND FRANCESCO ZUCCARELLI (1702–1788)
Capriccio with a view of Mereworth Castle, Kent
c.1741-2RCIN 400687
In Venice and England there was great interest in the work of the sixteenth-century architect Andrea Palladio. Antonio Visentini and Francesco Zuccarelli collaborated on a series of overdoor paintings for Smith showing important examples of British architecture in Palladio’s style. Mereworth Castle in Kent is a direct copy of Andrea Palladio’s Villa Rotonda near Vicenza.
