Marco Ricci's gouache paintings
These small paintings, all in their original Venetian frames, were made using the unusual technique of technique of tempera or gouache on fine leather. Joseph Smith, who knew Marco well, collected 33 of them. One of the works here shows an imagined monument to the mathematician Sir Isaac Newton (1642–1727). His ideas were of great interest to scholars in Venice at the time.
