CANALETTO (VENICE 1697-VENICE 1768)
The Crossing of San Marco looking to the North Transept on Good Friday
c.1725-30RCIN 400567
Interior views of churches are rare in Canaletto’s work. Late afternoon light on Good Friday floods in from the main west doors on the left. The two pulpits and chancel screen are draped with hangings and against the north transept wall is the Easter Sepulchre which played an important part in the Holy Week ceremonies.
