Venice: An altar in the north transept of San Marco

c.1735

RCIN 907431

The drawing shows a sarcophagus under a canopy in the north transept of San Marco, surrounded by votive candles and kneeling worshippers. It possibly shows a reliquary containing the femur of the Blessed Doge Pietro Orseolo (AD 926–987), who was canonised in 1731.
