Bibliotheca Smithiana

1755

RCIN 1155999

Joseph Smith's library contained many important printed books as well as albums of prints and drawings. In 1755 he made plans to sell his library in its entirety, and this catalogue was published by Smith's own Pasquali press in order to attract potential buyers. Negotiations began with George III's advisers around the same date but were suspended by the Seven Years War. The sale to the young king of Smith's entire collection, including the library, was finalised in 1762.
