Venice: The Redentore from the Riva
c.1734RCIN 907483
This is a distant view of the Giudecca from a standpoint on the Riva. The narrow angle of view has greatly condensed the space, compressing the boats into what appears to be a shallow foreground but is in fact several hundred metres of the Bacino. At the centre is Palladio’s church of the Redentore; to the left, the flank of San Giorgio Maggiore; to the right, the church of San Giacomo, demolished in 1837.
