GIOVANNI BENEDETTO CASTIGLIONE (1609-64)
The head of a bearded man, wearing a turban

To create this complex monotype, Castiglione dabbed and dragged the sticky ink onto the plate with a stiff brush. Highlights were then created in the beard, turban and fur collar by scraping ink away with a pointed tool. After the pull was taken, the image was worked up further on the paper with oil paint and wash.
