GIOVANNI BENEDETTO CASTIGLIONE (1609-64)
Studies of dromedaries and goats
c. 1630RCIN 903945
Like all young artists, Castiglione would have learned to draw partly by copying the work of others, gradually building up a repertoire of stock motifs. Studies of animals such as dromedaries and long-eared Nubian goats would be useful for depictions of Biblical subjects, which were to be a staple of Castiglione’s work throughout his career.
