Trinket box

c.1904

RCIN 52986

A gilt metal casket in the Art Nouveau taste, decorated with flowers and a dragon, on four splayed bracket feet, lined in pink silk. The hinged lid is set with a photograph of the Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria. The box was brought from Vienna in April 1904, probably by Queen Mary when Princess of Wales, who, with the Prince of Wales, paid a State Visit to Vienna on 19-23 April of that year.
