Queen Alexandra's Ostrich Feather Fan
c. 1901RCIN 25279
The tortoiseshell guards of the fan are richly applied with diamonds set in silver in a design of roses, shamrocks, and thistles - the national emblems of England, Ireland and Scotland. The top of the front guard is set with the crowned 'A' cipher of Queen Alexandra for whom this fan was made at the time of the coronation of King Edward VII. The ostrich feathers have been artificially curled to maintain their shape.
