ADRIAEN VAN DE VELDE (AMSTERDAM 1636-AMSTERDAM 1672)
A Hawking Party Setting Out
Signed and dated 1666RCIN 406966
The lady riding side-saddle is the epitome of elegance. Her rich clothing and fine horse mark her out as a romanticheroine. Her husband leads the way and a page reins in his horse behind. The landscape itself, with refined trees carefully spaced in the composition, echoes the overall impression of grace.
Acquired by George IV in 1810
