ADRIAEN VAN DE VELDE (AMSTERDAM 1636-AMSTERDAM 1672)
A Woman Milking a Goat outside a Barn
Signed and dated 1666RCIN 404810
In a deliberate contrast with the tonal blending of Philips Wouwermans (no. 5), the Amsterdam-based artist used bright, clearly defined blocks of colour for the sky and ground. The standing woman with a baby is reminiscent of an allegorical representation of Charity.
Acquired by George IV in 1814
