The day after the 1911 Durbar, King George V and Queen Mary went to the Red Fort, as Mary recorded in her diary, ‘At 3 – we drove to the Fort where a garden party was held, after which we put on our robes & crowns & showed ourselves to thousands of people stood on a balcony where the Mughal emperors formerly showed themselves.’
