Landscape with St Philip Baptising the Eunuch

c.1640-49

RCIN 405544

St Philip baptises a traveller after a chance meeting on the road. The steep stony path to the left symbolises the difficult path of faith, contrasting with the easy pleasures of the fertile plain to the right. The figures are almost incidental to the vast sky infused with golden evening light.
