THOMAS ROWLANDSON (1757-1827)
The Post-House
c. 1800?RCIN 913718
A watercolour of a scene outside the Sun Inn in Bodmin, Cornwall. A coach has stopped outside as two women disembark, assisted by a gentleman wearing a wig. An altercation takes place between one of the coachmen and a passenger – the argument is reflected in the fighting of the dog and pig nearby. Rowlandson regularly visited Cornwall, where his patron Mathew Michell had a house near Bodmin.
