THOMAS ROWLANDSON (1757-1827)

A Touch on the Times.

29 Dec 1788

RCIN 810297

This print criticises the Prince and supports Pitt’s attempts to control a regency. While the Prince can be seen ascending a crumbling throne, Pitt is extinguishing the flames of ‘Rebellion’. Charles James Fox (in a parody of Justice, with dice boxes instead of scales) supports his ascent. The print is a mockery of The Times, a pro-Prince of Wales satire issued a few days earlier. Probably purchased by Queen Victoria, 1854 Cat. 22
