The Two Kings of Terror.

Rowlandson shows Napoleon and Death sitting face to face on the battlefield of Leipzig. Behind them the French are vanquished by an allied army. The battle was a major defeat for Napoleon, who was forced to retreat to France. Rowlandson’s print records a large illuminated picture placed outside the shop of his publisher Rudolph Ackermann to celebrate the victory.
