THOMAS ROWLANDSON (1757-1827)

A Couple of Antiques, or my Aunt and my Uncle.

20 Nov 1807

RCIN 810666

Old women being beautified and distracted antiquarians are among Rowlandson’s favourite characters. The title may suggest that the print has an autobiographical element: Rowlandson was cared for by his wealthy aunt and uncle after his father’s bankruptcy in 1759, and inherited money from his aunt in 1789.
