Rowlandson made this pair of prints after drawings by his colleague G.M. Woodward. The two figures address the viewer directly and are clearly fond of alcohol (the man suffers from gout). Their round faces and large eyes are typical of Woodward’s draughtsmanship. The prints were included by Thomas Tegg as number 109 in his Caricature Magazine.
