An Excursion to Brighthelmstone made in the year 1789

Rowlandson and his friend Henry Wigstead travelled to Brighton (then known as Brighthelmstone) in June 1789, with the aim of publishing an account of the journey. Brighton was a popular resort and a favourite destination of the Prince of Wales. Wigstead provided the text, Rowlandson the illustrations. The pair dedicated the book by permission to the Prince, who owned this copy.
