Admiral Samuel Hood and Charles James Fox were elected to the two Westminster seats on 17 May 1784. This print caricatures the role of women in Fox’s victory. Fox and his ally Lord North are shown in drag, giving a benefit performance by the tombstone of the unsuccessful candidate, Sir Cecil Wray. The Duchess of Devonshire wears fox tails, which had been worn by Fox’s supporters during the campaign.
