Royal Navy

Between 1971 and 1974 The Prince of Wales served on the Royal Navy vessels HMS Norfolk, HMS Minerva and HMS Jupiter. In September 1974, the Prince joined the Royal Naval Air Station at Yeovilton, where he trained as a helicopter pilot, before joining 845 Squadron, which embarked in HMS Hermes to the Caribbean and East Canadian waters. The photograph to the right shows The Prince of Wales while in command of HMS Bronington, wearing a naval ‘full set’ (beard and moustache). The Prince currently holds the rank of Admiral in the Royal Navy and is also Patron of the Ton Class Association, formed of the officers and ratings who served on Ton Class Minesweepers such as HMS Bronington.
