LEONARDO DA VINCI (VINCI 1452-AMBOISE 1519)
Recto: The vessels and nerves of the neck. Verso: The vessels of the liver
c.1508RCIN 919051
In the winter of 1507 – 8, Leonardo dissected an old man in the hospital of Santa Maria Nuova in Florence, recording his observations in his notebook. Among these pages are the first clear descriptions in medical science of blockage of the coronary vessels of the heart, narrowing of the arteries, and cirrhosis of the liver. Here Leonardo depicts the vessels of the liver and their relationship to the great vessels, the aorta and vena cava.
