LEONARDO DA VINCI (VINCI 1452-AMBOISE 1519)

The muscles of the shoulder, torso and leg, and a skirmish

c.1506-8

RCIN 912640

The skirmish is typical of Leonardo’s ideas towards the Battle of Anghiari, which he continued to develop even after work on the mural had been suspended. But the sketch is secondary to the anatomical studies, in which Leonardo removes the right arm to analyse the muscles of the shoulder and trunk.
