LEONARDO DA VINCI (VINCI 1452-AMBOISE 1519)
The ventricles, papillary muscles and tricuspid valve (recto); The heart and coronary vessels (verso)
c. 1511-13RCIN 919073
Leonardo’s final and most brilliant campaign of dissection studied the heart of the ox. The drawings here depict the heart from different directions, with the auricular appendages and coronary vessels well shown, and the pulmonary artery cut away to reveal the three-cusped pulmonary valve. At lower right are details of that valve, both open and closed.
