These two plans for garden labyrinths are amongst the earliest to have been published in Italy and contributed to the growing popularity of this garden feature in the sixteenth-century formal garden. Labyrinths like these offered a single path to the centre; mazes differed in offering alternative routes, although the terms were often used interchangeably.
