JAKOB BOGDANI (C. 1660-1720)

Flowers in a Vase

c.1688-1710

RCIN 402807

The Hungarian artist Jakob Bogdani settled in London in c.1691. Bogdani painted flowers from Queen Mary’s collection of exotic plants at Hampton Court Palace as well as executing commissions for Queen Anne. These paintings feature luxuriant collections of exotic flowers in elaborately chased gilt and silver vases. These vases are similar to the type of lead, bronze and stone urns which had become an important ornamental feature of the formal garden.
