The Queen's South Africa Necklace

1947-52

Platinum, diamonds | 40.5 cm (length) | RCIN 200152

The necklace was a twenty-first birthday present to Princess Elizabeth, from the Government and Union of South Africa. The necklace originally consisted of 21 graduated brilliant-cut diamonds, linked by two smaller brilliants and a baguette-cut diamond. In 1952 the necklace was shortened to 15 large stones and the six stones removed were made into a matching bracelet.
