A Self-Portrait
c. 1810RCIN 420402
A talented amateur miniaturist, Lady Anna Stanhope depicts herself in lavish sixteenth-century costume festooned with pearls and jewels, holding a carnival mask. She is fondly remembered as one of Queen Victoria’s favourite ladies-in-waiting, and as the founder of the most British of institutions, afternoon tea.
