Le Maraviglie dell'arte, overo, Le Vite de gl'illustri pittori veneti ... ; pt. 1a / descritte da Carlo Ridolfi.
1648RCIN 1151399
Prompted by a reverence for the art of his heroic predecessors such as Titian and Tintoretto, the painter Carlo Ridolfi published in 1648 The Marvels of Art, a volume of more than 150 biographies of Venetian painters, in part intending to correct the Tuscan bias of Vasari's Lives. The engraved portrait of Titian that opens his biography is based on the same prototype as cat. 123 and 128.
