Prince Philip’s serious interest in Science and Technology in many ways reflects and continues the role of his great-great-grandfather Prince Albert. Prince Philip served as President of the British Association for the Advancement of Science (today the British Science Association) for 1951, while still a serving officer in the Royal Navy. His Presidential Address, entitled ‘The British Contribution to Science and Technology in the past hundred years’, was delivered to the 100th anniversary of the Great Exhibition, which was very largely Prince Albert’s brainchild.
