1855-6RCIN 2500154
Sergeant Breese (c.1817-1889) of the 11th (Prince Albert’s Own) Hussars lost his arm at the battle of Inkerman. He was one of the wounded men Queen Victoria and Prince Albert met at Brompton Barracks, Chatham, and was also sketched by Queen Victoria. His portrait is one of a number of photographs that Queen Victoria requested be taken of the wounded men. She later appointed Breese a Yeoman of the Guard, with a pension for life.
