NADAV KANDER

King Charles III, when The Prince of Wales

RCIN 2119556

This monumental headshot of King Charles III was taken at Birkhall, his private residence in Scotland. The tight crop against a deep saturated background magnifies and heightens the direct and expansive yet composed gaze of the sitter.

Commissioned by Time magazine, it was published on the cover of the 4 November issue. Of the shoot, Kander said ‘A good portrait opens questions. Not attempting to answer them.’ Printing technologies have undergone considerable advancements over the last 30 years, making it possible to produce larger colour prints with impressively high resolution, while at the same time increasing their resistance to fading.
