ARTHUR HOPKINS (1848-1930)

Princess Victoria Mary of Teck, with her mother, choosing her wedding trousseau, May 1893

1893

23.2 x 32.0 cm (whole object) | RCIN 920837

A wedding trousseau is a wardrobe of outfits for the bride. Princess May’s aunt, Grand Duchess Augusta of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, contributed no less than £1,000 towards her niece’s entirely new trousseau. The designs made for her at the time of her first engagement, in 1891, would no longer have been in fashion.
