Carl Fabergé was commissioned by the last two emperors of Russia to create fifty Easter Eggs, between 1885 and 1917, the most sumptuous and technically complex works of art he ever created.

Commissioned by Nicholas II for Alexandra Feodorovna, Easter 1901; confiscated by the Provisional government 1917; sold by the Antikvariat 1933; purchased by Queen Mary, 1933
