Snuffbox with coronation medal of Empress Catherine II (1729-1796)

The fashion for snuff-taking in the eighteenth century was widespread throughout Europe, including in Russia and necessitated the development of the snuffbox. This plain example is simply mounted with a silver portrait medal of Empress Catherine II by Timofey Ivanov.
